LATIN AMERICA IN THE COLD WAR

After the end of the Second World War, Latin America became a terrain of ideological confrontation between the two superpowers in conflict (United States / Soviet Union). Dispute that occurred at the level of political and economic ideas, but also in artistic, cultural, social representations and religion. Many times this tension had a strong component of the use of violence, which led to the development of armed guerrillas and the consequent reaction. They were years of implementation of different development models that sought to solve unsatisfied expectations, but ended in frustration, polarization and confrontation. Populisms, revolutions, dictatorships were consequences of the democratic fragility and discontent of the continent.

The call that we make from Humanidades is an invitation to analyze contemporary Latin American history from the second half of the 20th century until the fall of the Berlin Wall and its impact on the region.
